Sadly, Rolling in the Deep was a DNF at 74%. I wanted to like this story, it’s not every day I find a story about someone winning the lottery. But I found I had a hard time connecting with the characters. There was nothing about the heroine, Holly that I liked. She continued to allow her abusive ex-husband to mistreat her, sometimes in front of their young son. She’s just so weak and unsure of herself for most of what I read that I gave up on the possibility of redemption. Any possibility of her standing up to ex at this point would have felt faked and rushed. I liked the idea of Ray, but other than him loving his mother, there was nothing there. He continued to do work that wasn’t his passion even after having the means to go after his dream. Rolling in the Deep had the potential to be a very good read, but unremarkable characters and an underdeveloped romance made me walk away from this story several times never to return.
